A federal law (OSHA 29 CFR 1019.331) requires employers of tree care and municipal urban forestry workers who work within 10 feet of energized wires to document that those employees have received special training in electrical hazard awareness and recognition. Completion of this training satisfies that requirement.

Electrical Hazard Training Certification includes four components:

  • The Electrical Hazard Training manual. Completion of 6 tests.
  • Viewing of two videotapes that may be purchased in the Electrical Hazard Training manual from ACRT.
  • Satisfactory performance of an aerial rescue from 35-feet high.
  • Proof of a current First Aid and CPR card.

Electrical Hazard Training Certification is offered to experienced tree care and urban forestry workers through a two-day workshop at ACRT headquarters. Training and testing is conducted by ACRT instructors, or by the employer at the host facility.

EHT is not an introductory tree climbing class. Trainees are expected to be sufficiently proficient in climbing to safely undertake the aerial rescue portions of the class before entering the program.

Upon satisfactory completion of the ACRT-conducted course, participants receive an ACRT Electrical Hazards Training Certificate and wallet identification card.

Tuition for the course in Akron is $375 and includes the Electrical Hazard Training manual (an $85 value).
